What's today known as Oil Information AS has roots going way back to the end of the 1960's, when a handful of stenciled sheets of papers, scribbled full of essential contacts and addresses, were circulated under the moniker "Offshore mailing and telephone list" around the Norsea base just outside Stavanger. Deemed a useful tool; the whole thing was shortly after formalized with the creation of a company named "Oil Information Services Norway".
A lot has changed since then.
The name Oil Information has gone through a number of transformations and changes since the very start, we've kept the supplier industry as a solid backbone. Activities have been varied, both in numbers and extension, and for a period, UK interests bought parts of our business. It all changed radically in 2001.
A fresh start
On January 3rd 2001, Oil Information AS was founded and the name reborn. In April of the same year, our new web portal, dubbed "Oil Information Internet", was launched.
In 2004, we cranked it up a notch. By then, the time was right to launch the first edition of our Oilinfo News magazine, to great fanfare. It was the first magazine of its kind to seriously approach the possibilities of a growing Russian oil and gas market. In 2008 / 2009, PETROmedia bought Oil Information, and thus Oilinfo News and PETROmedia's PETROmagazine was merged into PetroNews.
The magazine is published quarterly, and has come to represent an ever-growing part of our total product line. Much like this web site, it's one of our main public faces.
In February 2005, we launched the massively popular Oilinfo Weekend; a weekly, electronic newsletter, which at first was sent directly to close to two thousand subscribers every Friday. Covering exclusives, the week in news, weekend tips and lighter features, it's now sent to over nine thousand subscribers every week, and was given a new name following the merger with PETROmedia: PetroNews Weekend. The newsletter has become one of our most popular products, and we're proud of that.
We'll continue to grow. If we keep doing things right, the industry will follow us, as we follow it.
Enjoy.
