Skrugard coming up

The planned exploration of this year's most eagerly awaited Norwegian prospect, Skrugard, has been approved by the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA). Statoil will explore Skrugard with "Polar Pioneer".

The Skrugard project is located in license 532 in the Barents Sea, and will be explored by "Polar Pioneer" through wellbore 7220/8-1. The operation is expected to start early in September, and last for around 36 days, the PSA reports.

- There is a very high level of prospectivity connected to this, Head of Exploration at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, Sissel Eriksen, told Oilinfo in February.

Statoil had an extensive exploration campaign in the Barents Sea in 2008, with disappointing results. Skrugard is located far away from existing infrastructure.

- If this exploration is successful, it will increase the prospectivity of the whole region, Eriksen said earlier this year.

Statoil has operatorship responsibilities in the license and a 50 percent interest, while Eni has a 30 percent interest and Petoro has a 20 percent interest.
