Statoil possible candidate for BP acquisitions

BP will get rid of NOK 185 billion worth of assets over the next 18 months. A Norwegian oil industry professor thinks it's likely that Statoil will pick up some of the assets.

- Statoil has money and is pushing forward all over the world. BP will sell assets worth several hundred Norwegian kroner, but I don't know which assets they are going to sell, and which Statoil would like to buy, Professor Øystein Noreng tells Norwegian business website E24.

BP has said that they will sell assets worth more to other companies than BP, and this way high grade their portfolio. Statoil have gained a foothold in the deep water regions of the Gulf of Mexico over the last decade, and the BP have a collection of assets, including the Macondo well, in this region.

- BP will sell some of their assets in the Gulf of Mexico, but it is not yet known whether or not this will be deep water assets, says Noreng.
